Vacation Series: Planning
Am I the only person who gets giddy when thinking about their next excursions. We are vacationing in mid February, and I am overflowing with excitement. After a season of deadlines, I love jet setting away for a change of scenery and pace.
Do you have a vacation place that hits different? For our family, it is Canada, tucked in the Canadian rockies, prefereably in Winter.
Our first taste of this slice piece of heaven was our honeymoon. We opted for Lake Louise nestled in between several mountains right on the lake with true Winter Wonderland views. Fairly certain, this girl from the bayou gapsed as I opened the blinds from our room. No lie, we probably talked to our friends and family about this trip as many hours as we were there. It renders me speechless to this day.
What we were not sure about is if it would live up to the hype, when we returned. For our five year anniversary, accompanied by our 9 month old, we journeyed back to our favorite place. It was just as it once was, but even sweeter to take back our daughter. We had afternoon tea at the same spot as 5 years prior, and our daughter gobbled up the accompaniments, a few licks of chocolate and a bite of coolie. We enjoyed daily breakfast, a meal our 24 year old selves skipped. The entire staff called her the baby, which seemed even more divine than "Happy Anniversary" chocolate details.
Thus, our obsession with Canda was cemented, and it is now a place I wish to go often. So, when we decided to schedule an annual baby girl birthday trip, we chose none other than our paradise, Canada. We decided we wanted to maintain the mountain winter escape, so we opted for Vancouver with a proposed day trip to Whistler.
Similar to capsule series, I plan to take you along for the journey of planning to taking our winter vaca in the form of clothes.
Regarding planning, I had to create expectation for temperature as well as activities. For this trip, I know I will moslty be with my daughter, as I won't ski, so I don't need any sport specific items, whereas my husband does. We will likely enjoy other outdoor acitvities, so her and I will need big winter coats, hats, and gloves, along with a few layers of pants and shirts. For me, I prefer to bring a few pants, sweaters, and buildable layers such as vest along with big coat. I pinpointed items in a color scheme that can easily mix-match, so I can have an outfit change each day between day and night, without needing a new outfits for each activity.
After managing my expectations and creating a list in my head, I put pen to paper, or in this case "add image to adobe". I identified items that I thought might work, while keeping in mind items that I either had already, wanted, or debated. You will find a few looks that I settled on below.
By planning my looks above and confirming via graphic, I liked the look, I could then move onto the stage for next week, Purchasing. I will take you along to see what I am purchasing, debating, and fine tuning.
Stay tuned as we go from planning to vacation in this, Four Part Vacation Series.
