Intangible Asset Series- Cashmere

Don't be like me. Do not spend years telling yourself that cashmere is too expensive to add to cart. Especially right now, when many brands are running promotions on their winter cashmere as retailers transition to spring wear.

Over a year ago, I caved. I added the Nordstrom Cashere Sweater to my Anniversary order. I had zero expectations, and I believed I would likely return the $70 sweater, a price tag I had only recently justified. I was still clawing back from a difficult postpartum. One where I did not know what to do without the grueling workweek, with a newborn baby, and coupled with very little sleep (You mamas understand). I went on a spending bender. Not everything I bought worked out, but the notion that I was worth it, and I could spend money on myself stuck. I realized that I work extremely hard, and I am allowed to treat myself. It was the first time in my life, where my tried and true accountant personality finally lived a little. I bought purses, pants, and everything in between that had long sat on my wishlist, but never allowed purchased. It was as if I just realized that I had money. Thankfully, I have since tightened the purse strings (a little, I am trying), but the rational remains true. I am enough, and I am worth it.

And so, we find ourselves back at the cashmere. I thought it would not be soft enough, would be too hot, and mostly would not be worth it. And then, I wore it week after week after week. I loved the look, the texture, and length, and so this year on the anniversary sales I snagged two more colors. A basic cashmere sweater is the perfect winter staple. I opted for three colors: grey, oatmeal, and black. I went for the crewneck style, as I prefer that over V-Neck. Second, I got the black in Small, while the other two in Medium to give me varying fits to provide additional looks. These can pair for work and weekend, which is why they are intangible to me as they are integral to my wardrobe as whole and not focused on one occasion nor medium.

And then after Christmas as retailers began trying to dispose of their year end inventory, I allowed myself a cashmere cardigan. One I had been lusting over for over a year, but did not want to pay full price on principal (Alas I haven't lost all of my accountant tendencies). The cardigan arrived, and it was everything I hoped it would be. I opted for a neutral color as opposed to black or white as I figured it would give me the most options as far as wearability as it can be worn with stark colors along with other neutral tones.

So ladies, if you want the sweater and think you will use it, get it. Live a little.
