Capsule Wardrobe Series: Part Two
As we reuse the home building analogy, we move onto framing our home. As our vision begins to come to life, it is important that we are methodical about what we want.
Just as we are not going to frame our home into one large square, rather we assess how many bedrooms, sizing of spaces, and add areas that are necessary for our needs such as office or laundry rooms. We must follow a similar system to our wardrobe.
For me, I decided to focus on what not only works for my body type, but also you feel like your best self. If I don’t feel confident in an item within my closet, it is highly unlikely that I will grab that item to style. Thus, as we try to do more with less and focus on quality rather than quantity, I no longer hold onto items in my closet that are not the right color, cut, or fit.
My body composition includes both curves along with height. Because of this, I typically prefer a high waisted pants or an A line dress that accentuates my waist to hips ratio, as I feel less confident in a drop waist Jean or dress. Furthermore along with cut, I also prefer to have a combination of both fitted and loose items as I lean towards conservative style of dressing. This might mean that I pair a loose straight leg jean with a fitted shirt or sweater. This would be the same if I opt for a baggy or oversized sweater would be paired with a tapered or slim pant. The final component is color. As a working wife and mother, my time is limited, and I rather utilize my time focusing on being present than fretting about what to wear. Sticking to black, white, and neutral tones with limited pattern, allows for th e larger number of outfit combinations. Thus, much of my closet has the ability to be seasonless.
